Cell Phone Reception

When choosing a cell phone plan or service, one of the most important things to consider is the amount of cell phone reception you will receive. Reception is also commonly referred to as the number of "bars" you will receive on average.

For example, some newer cell phone service providers will have less "base stations" than the established providers. What does this mean to you? It means that you are more likely to end up somewhere where you cannot use your cell phone, since there is no cell tower nearby!

Besides the number of cell phone towers, you also have to take a look at the actual phone that you have. Some phones have stronger antennas than others, which means you can be farther from the base station than with a weaker phone. However, cell phones usually do not tell you how strong the antennas are, so you may need to so some research online to see more detailed information. You can start at this site and do a search in our search engine.

All in all, the amount of cell phone reception will depend on how strong your phone is, as well as how established your cell phone provider is. So, if reception is very important to you, then you may be better off buying a more expensive phone and choosing one of the more established providers. Otherwise, you can choose any old phone and try your luck with one of the newer cell phone services. Be advised however, that newer providers can also "rent" base stations from other companies, so cell phone reception in the U.S. is getting much better in general.
